FAQs
How is Heather's Victory Gardens different from other florists?
How does Heather's Victory Gardens apply the concepts of reduce/reuse/recycle?
At HVG we strive to provide local, fresh and sustainable floral to our community. Protecting our environment and applying the practices of reduce/reuse/recycle are very important to us. Most of the flowers you purchase in grocery stores or from a florist are shipped in from all parts of the world. This means the flowers being imported have arrived on planes, ships, trucks, etc. using loads of fossil fuels. All of the investment in transporting floral products across the globe also requires the need to apply pesticides and other non-organic preservatives to ensure the flowers make the trip to your local store/florist,
We reuse/repurpose all of the glass jars/vases used in our arrangements. This helps keep cost down for our clients and you can feel good knowing that the jar being used is making a positive impact on our environment. We also strive to be as close to 100% organic as possible when growing our flowers and veggie starts. In 2022 we are moving to green compostable bags to hold the water for our pay/carry hand-tied bouquets. Our hand-tied bouquets are also wrapped in recyclable brown craft paper.

The best way to extend the life of your cut flowers is to keep the water they are in as fresh and as clean as possible. This means changing the water every day. If you wouldn't drink the water your flowers are in, why would you expect them to drink from it and be their best? You can also recut the stems on your flowers at an angle so you open up the stem surface, making it easier for your flowers to drink. Floral food/preservative is also beneficial to keep water clean and to feed your flowers. REMEMBER that flowers are perishable items and most have a vase life of 7-10 days from when they were cut if you follow these instructions.
